Primary strategic goals

We will cut case processing times by simplifying the way in which we work.

We use our time efficiently

We do this by:

  • prioritising tasks and development initiatives which offer value for money
  • streamlining every aspect of the processing of patient injury claims
  • streamlining the work of all units
  • giving users a responsibility to contribute more during the application process
  • creating an open culture of cooperation

We use our expertise in an innovative and solution-oriented manner

We do this by:

  • developing expertise and sharing knowledge in a systematic manner
  • creating a culture for giving and receiving feedback
  • taking the lead role, being courageous as regards change and management
  • actively supporting innovative initiatives
  • building the expertise we will need in the future

We have efficient and goal-oriented decision-making processes

We accomplish this by:

  • strengthening the decision-making capabilities of executive officers
  • delegating tasks and decisions
  • communicating decisions clearly and plainly

We use appropriate digital tools

We do this by:

  • simplifying existing solutions
  • building digital expertise
  • adopting new digital tools

Our vision: Focus on the patient

Our values: Considerate, informative and quality-aware

In our work, we seek to be:

Considerate – We will meet patients with openness, understanding and respect. We will provide personal and individual assistance and follow-up. We will demonstrate our trust in the patient, so that the patient is assured safe and confident.

Informative – We will work actively to inform the public about the patient injury scheme. Our activities must be visible, easily accessible and well known. Our communication with patients, the health service and others must be good and constructive.

Quality-aware - All levels of the organisation must be characterised by openness, expertise and efficiency. This will ensure that patients receive swift and correct outcomes.

Remit

NPE has three statutory tasks.

We are responsible for:

  1. determining whether applicants are entitled to compensation and, if so, the amount of compensation payable
  2. providing statistical data in order to improve quality and contribute to injury prevention within the health service
  3. disseminating information about the patient injury scheme to patients, the health service and the public at large
